7 Pro Fit Tips For an Instant Wardrobe Upgrade
If I was only allowed to give one piece of advice to anyone reading this post it would be (drumroll) :
FIT IS EVERYTHING. Not to yell, but trust me, it’s the truth. How do I know? Any client who goes through our process also goes through a tailoring session. And those who experience a proper tailoring session are floored by what a difference it makes, and how they start to see fit differently when/if they shop on their own. If you need more convincing, here are my top 4 reasons to get your wardrobe tailored:
A great fitting garment looks expensive, regardless of what you paid for it.
Tailoring can make all of your clothing look custom made.
Proper fit will highlight your best features and keep your body in proportion.
Showing up sharp will impress everyone in your life from your colleagues to your friends and family.
We’re probably all in need of a good fit session, especially as we start to get dressed again. After a year of sweatpants, who knows how things are fitting. Scroll on for a crash course in the most common fit issues and how I recommend fixing them.

TOO TIGHT?
If a garment pulls across the bust* or the hip, it’s too small.
*Note: If a garment pulls at the bust only when you move a certain way, it can mean the buttons aren’t spaced right for the proportion of your torso. Adding in a couple security snaps can make all the difference.
TOO BIG OR SMALL?
If garment is too big in one area and too small in another, you need to take one size up, and tailor it down from there.
SLOPPY SLEEVE?
Most of the time, the cuff just needs to be narrowed. A small tweak like this makes a big difference. If the sleeve is extra long, it may need to be shortened in addition to narrowing the cuff.
BACK BUBBLE?
A garment that is too long in the torso will create a bubble that can easily be smoothed out by a tailor.
TIGHT ARMHOLE OR NECKLINE?
Lower the arm or neck opening to get the breathing room you need.
LOSING IT OVER LENGTH?
Having trouble finding pants the right length? Here’s a quick guide to where your pant hems should hit:
Full Length: Wider leg pants that should hit ½ inch from the floor.
Ankle Length: Narrow pant legs should hit at the ankle bone with little to no break*.
Cropped Length: Pants this length should hit 1-1 1/2 inch above the ankle bone.
TREND ALERT! X-Long hems are trending this season. Love this look but want to avoid a sloppy, pooling pant leg? First, make sure to hem your pant, then keep 1 break* (= the fold of the fabric above the bottom of the front of the pant leg where it meets your shoe).
TAPER YOUR PANT HEM?
Use a hack straight out of our tool kit to taper your ankle hem in seconds! Pinch the loose material in 2 sections, side by side. Press them together, and slip a bobby pin up through the bottom to hold them together. (Check out our Insta for a tutorial ; )
