Layer Like a Stylist

Seriously, we don't know what season it is either.
One day it's snowing and the next it's 70 degrees...not to mention dramatic day to night temp swings that complicate dressing even further. Should you dress for your 9am commute or your 1pm lunch break? We can't keep up and neither can our wardrobe.

You can actually dress for it all, if you have the right formula.
The key to dressing for the rollercoaster that is spring weather is layer, layer, layer. We have an easy, stylist-approved formula for chic, layered outfits that will ensure you're wearing a piece(s) for every temp your day has in store. Add or remove, add and remove again! You're in control of your look.

Scroll on for our five step guide to spring layering and some of our current fave finds!

1. Start With a Strong Base
A great base is the start to any stylish layered look. The best base is an elevated basic: think tees, tanks, and bodysuits with an interesting detail to add visual intrigue. This season look for cut-outs, ribbing, or pops of color!

2. Add a Layer
This layer should be light and wearable indoors. It should be thin enough to fit under your outerwear, but roomy enough to get the right fit over your base layer. Oversized blazers, leather shirts, denim jackets, and cardigans are all great options for the mid layer (especially under a trench for surprise showers)!

3. Finish With Outerwear
This is the layer that will get you through your chilly commute, and can be ditched during the warmer middle of the day. A classic trench is always a great spring go-to, but this season we're also loving a puffer vest and cozy oversized wrap coats.

4. Pair Your Pant
Denim is a staple for any season, and if you don't have a pair you love, then get on it! If you're looking for a denim alternative, try a cotton wide-leg pant, cargo, or cord to add some texture (and variety!) to your look.

5. The Finishing Touch
Transitional weather can make footwear a challenge. When it's too warm for a winter boot and not yet time for open toe, what's left? Sneakers and flats are great spring go-tos, or try a western bootie or clog to add a trend moment to finish off your look.
