How To Shop Like a Stylist

Shopping can be weirdly stressful, I get it.
The endless choices, purchasing insecurity, confusion over what is worth spending on...it can all lead to wasted hours and very little return. In order to successfully weed through a sea of selection to find the real gems worth purchasing, it takes A LOT of practice. It may sound silly, but shopping is a skill that you have to hone.

Luckily for you, I have plenty of tools to share.
It may have taken years of on-the-job experience to hone my styling craft, but I’m grateful for each little trick I have in my tool belt. Now my process can be your process ; ).

MY 4 TOP TIPS:

1. Quality over Quantity. You don’t need more clothes, you just need the right clothes. You’ve heard of investing in quality but what are those pieces and what do they look like? See beautiful examples here. Our rule of thumb is investing in classic items with a twist that are highly functional. Think cashmere knit, beautiful boot, a well-tailored blazer.

2. Shop with intention. Before buying anything, take stock of what’s already in your closet. What do you have covered, and what is missing? If you have a complete collection of jeans, there is no point buying more. Your dollars matter more than ever, so use them wisely, and with sustainability in mind if possible. 3. eCommerce hack to find what you want--fast. Use a product aggregator to quickly see what’s available from designers to trends to sale items. Our favorite tool is Shop Style! If you’re searching for those key missing pieces you know you need, this is the easiest + quickest way to see what’s available from most e-tailers.

4. Buy the items you love or need, not just the ones that are on sale. When you stick to a budget and a shopping list, you can ignore promotions that push you off track. If you can’t resist a sale (we get it!), identify pieces you want in the beginning of the season, set sale alerts for them on Shop Style (see tip #2 ;) then wait to purchase when/if they go on sale!

So there you have it, my shopping tricks of the trade. Just remember, it takes time and patience to shop efficiently and effectively. Stick with it, and don't let the product sea suck you down.
